Shocks to People from Moving Plastic Webs and Winders

When people stand near winders and highly charged webs, the charge can discharge to them causing pain and involuntary movement. There have been reports of injury and even death related to high static discharge. Keeping your machinery free from high static charge is a critical part of maintaining a safe work environment.

SOLUTION: Use the StaticString™, StaticElastic™, or Ion360™ rods as shown. For more information, visit the winding and converting page.

"The StaticString™ is like a little miracle and anyone standing at the rewind thanks you"

Static Shocks to People

When people get charged with static from contacting charged plastics such as sheets, rolls, tote boxes, carts or from charged flooring material, the charge accumulates evenly on their skin because skin is conductive. When a charged person then contacts metal there is a discharge between them which can be painful and dangerous. Even if the conductor is not grounded there will still be a discharge.

The StopStatic™ Tape works without contacting a person’s skin by ionizing the static charges from the skin, through the air to its surface inside the footwear. The static is carried down to a conductive or static dissipative mat or floor surface. The StopStatic™ Tape is wrapped under the outside of the heel for positive contact with a conductive or static dissipative surface. If the tape contacting the floor gets damaged or clogged with dirt, cut the damaged area away and reattach the tape for longer use.

The StopStatic™ Tape can also be folded over near the bottom of the heel (1/8″ from the floor). The high static charges coming from the person will ionize to the floor through the air (1/8″) without contact. This method will extend the useful life of the StopStatic™ Tape.

Instructions:

  1. Cut to length needed.
  2. Place the StopStatic™ Tape down the inside of the footwear as shown.
  3. Stick the StopStatic™ Tape down the outside of the footwear and under the heel as shown.
